WILEX is a biopharmaceutical company based in Munich and is listed at the Frankfurt Stock Exchange at the Regulated Market / Prime Standard. The Company was founded in 1997 by a team of physicians and oncologists from the Technical University of Munich.
WILEX’s mission is to develop drugs with a low side effect profile and targeted treatment of different types of cancer as well as diagnostic agents for specific detection of tumours. The Company’s product candidates are based on antibodies and small molecules
WILEX has an attractive product pipeline which includes both drug and diagnostic candidates based on antibodies and small molecules. The therapeutic agent RENCAREX® is currently in a Phase III registration trial, and data will be available at the end of 2012. The diagnostic candidate REDECTANE® has completed a phase III trial and the development for the next steps will be discussed with the FDA. Both candidates are based on the antibody Girentuximab. The uPA inhibitor MESUPRON® is in a Phase II programme, data from the breast cancer trial are expected in 2012. Under the terms of a strategic partnership WILEX acquired from UCB a preclinical oncology portfolio with a MEK inhibitor (WX-554), a PI3K inhibitor (WX-037) and three antibody-based projects. WX-554 is currently in a Phase I program, the other projects are in the preclinical and research phase.
The US subsidiary WILEX Inc. markets several in vitro diagnostic tests in oncology under the brand Oncogene Science. These diagnostic tests could be developed as companion diagnostics in clinical trials and for therapy monitoring. The subsidiary Heidelberg Pharma GmbH offers pre-clinical service business especially an antibody drug conjugate technology platform. The expanded business model of WILEX comprises research, technology platform, development collaboration as well as sales and marketing.
Based on this pipeline WILEX aims within a few years to be able to finance its research and development programmes from its operating cash flow.
